Technical Specification sheet

The Bucking Unit, also known as hydraulic make-up and breakout unit, is dedicated hydraulic equipment for assembling and disassembling threaded connections of oilfield tubulars. Equipped with a power rotating head and fixed backup tong, it delivers precisely controlled torque to complete thread make-up and breakout offline. Different from iron roughnecks deployed on drill floors, bucking units are mainly applied in workshops, pipe yards and maintenance bases for prefabrication and inspection of pipe strings. The system consists of heavy-duty clamping jaws, hydraulic drive module, real-time torque-turn monitoring system, mobile machine bed and integrated control console. The backup tong firmly secures the tubular body to prevent rotation, while the power head implements high-speed thread spinning and final torque tightening. It supports both standard API threads and premium threaded connections. All torque data can be recorded, stored and exported for quality traceability. The mobile bucking unit provides up to 100,000 ft-lb of torque for the toughest makeup and breakout operations. A robust, compact design with fewer moving parts increases overall reliability and provides outstanding high-speed breakout performance in the workshop or on the rig for most oilfield connections including drill string components, tools, packers, couplings, and valves.

The bucking unit achieves repeatable, consistent make-up torque, effectively eliminating risks of under-torque, over-torque and cross-threading and greatly reduces manual operation dependence, lowers labor intensity and improves working safety. The digital torque archive supports third-party inspection, satisfying strict quality control requirements for oil & gas operators. Bucking Units are widely adopted in pipe manufacturing factories, tubular maintenance workshops, oilfield service bases and well construction engineering sites. Typical applications include pre-making casing and tubing coupling connections, assembly and disassembly of drill string and BHA components, maintenance of downhole drilling tools, inspection of premium threaded connections, and tubular reconditioning work for onshore and offshore oil & gas projects.
